When driving up the Niagara Escarpment in Milton, Ontario, there are certain spots where you get a magnificent view of the city below. One thing that's hard to miss is the fact that this city's landscape is changing fast. New home subdivisions have created entirely new neighborhoods and many more are on their way. The growing city of Milton is alive with progress and optimism, and rightly so; it's a beautiful place to call home in southern Ontario. Milton has small-town charm with big-city access and has carved out its own identity in the middle of six million people in the Greater Toronto Area.
In November, 2006, God had impressed on Alan in prayer to strategically plant True North Church in Milton. The city was right in the middle of Halton Region, and a church there would have the opportunity to reach the city of Milton, but also surrounding nearby communities like Oakville, Burlington, and Halton Hills.
Milton is called the "western gateway to the GTA" with its location on the 401 making it great for business and commuters. The town's website (www.milton.ca) says Milton is, "an ideal place to live, work, and play". We think it's also an ideal place to start a new church!
Statistics Canada recently released the long-awaited survey of Canada's population from the 2006 census. On March 13, 2007, news releases everywhere were showing Milton, Ontario, as having the biggest population increase in all of Canada. It ranked #1 in the country with a whopping 71.4% growth rate!
Does God know what He is doing or what? It should be no surprise that He would ask pastors to plant churches in strategic cities like Milton. For years to come, people from everywhere will be moving into this growing community, joining others who have called this great city home for years. True North and other churches in the Milton community will be there waiting for them, inviting them into a relationship with Jesus Christ.
